Difference between website development and design

Many of us use the two terms web design and web development alternately, but these definitions really have two quite different meanings. If you are looking to hire a professional to build a website for you (Personal Website) or for your company (Company Website), you need to know the difference between these two terms as well as all the skills that come with them.

Website design

Web site design is the most common term used by professionals in this industry. Many times when someone tells you that they are a "web designer" they refer to a wide range of skills where one of them is art design. Part of the equation of this "design" deals with what the customer sees in the "public section" of a website. A web designer is concerned with how a website is presented to the visitor and how the customer interacts with it (also sometimes referred to as "experienced web designers"). Good web designers know the basics of design in order to create a website that looks beautiful using interesting color combinations.

They also understand the usefulness of the internet and how to create a website that is user friendly in terms of navigating it.

Website development

Website or internet development comes in 2 versions: front-end and back-end management. Some of the skills in these two versions overlap however have many different purposes for the programmer profession.

A front-end developer takes the visual design of a website (either created by him or delivered to him by a designer) and develops it into code. This developer will use HTML to structure the web page, CSS to dictate the layout and visual style, and maybe some Javascript. For some small websites, front-end development may be the only type of development that will be needed for this project. For more complex projects, back-end management development should take this place.

Development in management (back-end) deals with more advanced programming and page interactions. A back-end developer focuses on how a website works and how customers will complete requests used in a particular functionality. This could include working with code governing a database interface or developing applications such as an online store that connects online payments and more. Good programmers may know how to program in CGI and scripts like PHP. They will also understand how forms work and what the difference is between software packages and APIs (application programming interfaces) that can be used to connect different packages.

What do many internet professionals do?

While many professionals specialize in specific areas, many of them blur the differences between the two industries. They may either feel more comfortable working in the visual arts using programs such as Adobe Photoshop or have limited knowledge of HTML and CSS. This knowledge is really very useful as it covers a large part of this industry. A designer who understands how websites(Creative Web Design Agency in California, USA) have been developed would do well to expand his knowledge and experience on design. Similarly, a programmer who can understand the basics of design and visual communication can create smart choices by writing the corresponding code on pages as well as meaningful interactions in his works.

It does not make sense whether or not you find professionals with this skill set. What you need to know is which industry to look for when looking for someone to work for your website. The skills of the recruiter will play an important role in the cost you have to spend to complete the project. In many cases the cost of designing and developing the front-end for small or simple websites will be much less (time-based cost) than hiring an experienced back-end developer. For larger websites and related projects you will need to hire teams that are made up of professionals and cover all these different industries.
