FLAT DESIGN SCANS THE WORLD OF WEB DESIGN

From its very first appearance, flat design literally swept the world of web design, leaving everything… flat in its path! Learn the reasons for its success and how it will evolve in the future.

Many years ago people believed that the earth was flat. This theory was of course abandoned when it was proved that the earth is spherical.

In the digital world the opposite has happened! In 2013, the realistic approach to web design techniques and elements received a strong blow from the introduction of the minimalist trend of flat design.

The flat design exceeded all expectations. In almost three years, countless websites, applications, visual arts on social media, etc. look like a roller coaster has passed over them.

See a typical and very Christmas example - to get in the mood slowly - by Google, which played a key role in the development and introduction of flat design.

The evolution of flat design

To stay on top, you have to evolve. That is why the flat design did not remain stagnant and too flat as in the beginning.

The philosophy of simplicity, minimalism and usability remained unchanged, but elements were added and new trends were incorporated that renew the interest and highlight other aspects of flat design.

Let's get to know 4 of these elements and the trends we just mentioned.

1. Long Shadows

Flat design gradually ceased to be feared; its shadow and smaller elements, such as buttons and icons, gain more depth with the use of shadows.

Long shadows, as shown above, are created using a darker tone of the icon color and have a 45 ° tilt. Their extent is specific and their margins are clear.

 2. Bright and intense color palettes

"Add color to your (online) life" protects flat design and designers are experimenting as never before with the use of bright colors that catch the eye and enliven the overall result.

3. Simple, flat fonts

The roller of flat design naturally went over the typography and… flat typography was made.

Using simple and easy-to-read fonts, such as Sans Serif, the emphasis is on the user's reading experience. Commonly, what matters now is the ease of reading and not whether the font chosen is simply beautiful or has a lot of frills.

4. Ghost Buttons

Do not go to Ghost Busters! The ghost buttons, also known as "naked" or "empty" buttons have the shape of the well-known call to action, but their interior is transparent. Only the outline gives them the shape and feel of a button.

The final result is harmoniously integrated into the overall design of a website and becomes an integral part of it. When also properly combined with a suitable background image, the ghost button becomes even more attractive to the user.

The future of flat design

Unlike other web design trends of the past that have faded over time, such as the sophistication or photorealism that has been heavily used by Apple, flat design does not seem to be in danger.

The minimalism that distinguishes it in combination with its positive effect on the user experience are the features that made it stand out and remain high in the preferences of designers, developers and the public.

After all, web design is increasingly tending towards an approach aimed at optimally highlighting the content of a website(Web Design Bakersfield, California). Flat design stands out as an ideal choice, as its simplicity leaves room for content to shine, complementing it harmoniously.

This does not mean that the flat design will remain static. It has already begun to integrate the photographic material into its general philosophy for a more modern end result, as shown in the image below.
